Fatima Prophecy

The Fatima Prophecies

"The war (WWI) is going to end soon, but if people do not cease offending God, a worse war will break out under the pontificate of Pius XI. When you see a night illuminated by an unknown light (1/25/1938), know that this is the great sign given by God that he's about to punish the world for its crimes by means of war, famine and persecutions of the Church and the holy father."
Our Lady of Fatima - 1917

In the year 1917 an unusual event occurred in Portugal that would affect the lives of the world's Catholics for over a century. In the tiny town of Fatima, Portugal three young shepherd children would witness the appearance of an angel who told them that the present war (WWI) would soon end, but because people on Earth were not obeying God's laws, a second and more terrible war would happen in the future under the papacy of Pius XI.

Further visions occurred on the 13th of each month, and by October over 50,000 people had gathered at Fatima. A total of three visions were received concerning future world events. The "First" secret of "Our Lady" described the coming of WWII. The "Second" secret of Fatima predicted a future conversion of Russia from Communism, and a "Third" Fatima secret was locked away in the vaults of the Vatican and not scheduled to be released until the year 1960. Two of the Fatima children later died in the worldwide Spanish flu epidemic of 1918, leaving only Lucia Marto to release the Fatima secrets.

The first Fatima vision had predicted that WWI would soon end, but that a second more terrible war would break out under Pius XI, and right on schedule in 1938 under the papacy of Pius XI the German army marched into Austria in a military takeover of that nation. The second Fatima vision had asked Catholics to pray for the conversion of Russia to prevent her from annihilating many world nations. In the 1950s at Catholic churches all over America, Fatima shrines were erected where millions of Catholics went to pray for the conversion of Russia from communism. In 1989, the Berlin Wall was taken down, and the leader of the U.S.S.R. eventually moved to California. The third and last Fatima secret describing the invasion of the Vatican by soldiers and the execution of a pope has not yet occurred. Below is that final Fatima vision:

"And we saw an immense light that is God, something similar to how people look in a mirror when they pass in front of it, a bishop dressed in white (we had the impression it was the holy father), other bishops, priests, men and women religious, going up a steep hill, at the top of which was a big cross with a rough hewn trunk, like a cork tree with the bark.  Before reaching there, the Holy father passed through a big city half in ruins (Rome?).  Half trembling, in halting steps afflicted by pain and sorrow, he prayed for the souls of the corpses he passed along the way.  Having reached the top of the hill, on his knees at the foot of the big cross, he was killed by a group of soldiers who shot bullets at him..."

When Pope John XXIII opened and read the "Third Secret" in 1960, he was so frightened by its contents that he exclaimed, "This is not me!" and refused to release the final secret to the public. The "Third" secret was placed back into the Vatican's archives and not again examined until the year 2000, when it was finally released by Pope John Paul II and Lucia dos Santos, the only surviving member of the original Fatima children who had first received the vision. Pope John Paul II stated that he felt this final prophecy might be a "figurative representation" of the attempt on his life that had occurred 1981.

The two Fatima Secrets that had already been released however, were definitely not figurative in nature, and the final secret of Fatima is hauntingly similar to other famous prophecies that also concern the fate of Rome and its papacy (like the prophecy of St. Malachy and the Garabandal prophecy) that predict a dire future for the holy city of Rome. In spite of all these warnings however, the Catholic Church still appears to be denying its own prophecies on this matter.
