The Fatima Prophecies

In the year 1917 an unusual event occurred in Portugal that would affect the lives of the world's Catholics for over a century. In the tiny town of Fatima, Portugal three young shepherd children would witness the appearance of an angel who told them that the present war (WWI) would soon end, but because people on Earth were not obeying God's laws, a second and more terrible war would happen in the future (under the papacy of Pius XI).

"The war (WWI) is going to end soon, but if people do not cease offending God, a worse war will break out under the pontificate of Pius XI. When you see a night illuminated by an unknown light (1/25/1938), know that this is the great sign given by God that he's about to punish the world for its crimes by means of war, famine and persecutions of the Church and the holy father."
Our Lady of Fatima - 1917

Further visions occurred on the 13th of each month, and by October over 50,000 people had gathered at Fatima. A total of three visions were received concerning future world events. The "First" secret of "Our Lady" described the coming of WWII. The "Second" secret of Fatima predicted a future conversion of Russia from Communism, and a "Third" Fatima secret was locked away in the vaults of the Vatican and not scheduled to be released until the year 1960.

It was the third Fatima secret that described a frightening event in Rome involving an invasion of the Vatican by soldiers, and the execution of a future pope. The Third Fatima vision appears below:

  THE THIRD SECRET:

"And we saw an immense light that is God, something similar to how people look in a mirror when they pass in front of it, a bishop dressed in white (we had the impression it was the holy father), other bishops, priests, men and women religious, going up a steep hill, at the top of which was a big cross with a rough hewn trunk, like a cork tree with the bark.  Before reaching there, the Holy father passed through a big city half in ruins (Rome?).  Half trembling, in halting steps afflicted by pain and sorrow, he prayed for the souls of the corpses he passed along the way.  Having reached the top of the hill, on his knees at the foot of the big cross, he was killed by a group of soldiers who shot bullets at him..."

The third Fatima secret was scheduled to be opened in 1960, but when Pope John XXIII opened and read the Third Secret in 1960, he was so frightened by its contents that he exclaimed "This isn't me!" and refused to release the final secret to the public. The "Third" secret was placed back into the Vatican's archives and not again opened until the year 2000 when it was finally released by Pope John Paul II and Lucia dos Santos, the only surviving member of the original Fatima children who'd first received the vision. It was the opinion of Pope John Paul II that this final Fatima vision might be a "figurative representation" of the time when he was attacked in 1981.

The two Fatima Secrets that had already been released however, were definitely not figurative in nature, and the final secret of Fatima is hauntingly similar to other famous prophecies that also concern the fate of Rome and its papacy, like the prophecy of St. Malachy and the Garabandal prophecy, that predict a dire future for the holy city of Rome. In spite of all these warnings however, the Catholic Church still appears to be denying its own prophecies on this matter.
