Nostradamus
and Philip II

    Did Nostradamus predict the coming of King Philip II of Spain?   Nostradamus did occasionally use real names in his prophecies.  This may be one more example of that fact.  Philip II of Spain was the most powerful man in Europe in his time.  His actions had a major effect on the history of France during the Protestant Reformation.  King Philip wanted to protect his interests in northern Europe, and maintain his hold on the Netherlands against the Protestants and the wealthy Dutch Jews (Dutch East India Company), who were refusing to pay tax to the king.  The Nostradamus quatrains below contain references to King Philip II of Spain:

     NOSTRADAMUS QUATRAIN #8 - 81

   The new empire in desolation,

   Le neuf empire en desolation,

   There'll be a change in the northern satellite;

   Sera change du pole aquilonaire;

   He of Sicily shall create such a commotion,

   De la Sicile viendra l'esmotion,

   Troubling the enterprise of Philip's province.

   Troubler l'emprise a Philip tributaire.

   The above quatrain describes a rebellion taking place in King Philip's northern provinces.  The third Duke of Alba has created a commotion in the Netherlands trying to maintain the area under the authority of King Philip of Spain.  The Dutch Protestants and Jews rejected efforts by Philip to hold on to his possessions in Holland.

     NOSTRADAMUS QUATRAIN #9 - 89

   For seven years Philip's fortunes prosper,

   Sept ans sera Philip, fortune prospere,

   But will be reduced by Arab opposition;

   Rabaissera des Arabes l'effainct;

   Then a southern entanglement reverses the situation,

   Puis son midi perplex rebours affaire,

   A young upstart will undermine his authority.

   Jeune ognion abismera son fort.

   In 1830, King Louis-Philip of Spain took control of the French throne on the occasion of the capture of Algeria.  Seven years later a young Arab upstart by the name of Abd al Qadir raised an army and took control of south Algeria.  Philip II was then forced to sign the Treaty of Tafna.

   Modern scientists and historians are unable to explain how Nostradamus was able to record these amazing predictions well before the events actually happened.   If you'd like to know more about how the Hebrew prophets predicted these events before they took place, click on the link below and order your copy of Edward Oliver's 350-page book "Prophets and Frauds."
