NOSTRADAMUS QUATRAIN #2-57
Before the conflict the great one will fall,
Avant conflict le grand tumbera,
The great one dead, a death too sudden & lamented;
Le grand mort, mort trop subite & plainte;
Born imperfect, but for the most part he will be honored,
Nay imparfaict, la plus part nagera,
Near the river, the land stained with blood.
Aupres du fleuve, de sang la terre teinct.

Nostradamus here describes the untimely death of the young French king Francis II, who was born with a club foot. After Henry II's death in a jousting match in 1559, the Catholic Church tried to take control of the throne of France, but Queen Catherine de Medici was able to gain support from the Protestants of northeastern France, and placed her 15 year-old son on the throne as Francis II. The Pope set the Catholic de Guise brothers in place as the King's advisors and sent Dominican friars to France to work in the king's kitchens and add snake poison to the honey glaze used on the king's meat. The young king succumbed to the poisoning the next year. After Francis II's death the French Wars of Religion stained the land with much blood.
