Nostradamus and
General Franco

This famous quatrain recorded by the prophet Nostradamus hundreds of years ago, concerns the coming of Spain's celebrated leader, general Francisco Franco.   General Franco was a dictator who ruled Spain from 1936 until 1975.  In this amazing prophecy, Nostradamus not only includes Franco's name, but also includes the name of Franco's predecessor, Primo de Rivera.  This is just one of many instances where Nostradamus uses proper names in his quatrains.

Primo de Rivera (Castillian: Ribera) had ruled Spain since 1923.   In 1929 however, the stock market crash caused Rivera's rule to crumble.   Members of Spain's liberal elite were now demanding a socialist takeover of the government.  General Franco, Spain's second most powerful military leader, was ordered off to the Balearic Islands as left and right wing factions struggled for political control of Spain

When it appeared the Socialists were about win, Franco, aided by Rivera supporters in Morocco, decided to initiate a military coup and take over the government, but the Straits of Gibraltar denied their entry onto the continent.   With aid from Mussolini and Hitler however, Franco was able to obtain the boats and airplanes he needed to cross over the waters of the gulf and defeat the Russian troops and American communists who were attempting to take over his country.   General Franco served as Spain's absolute ruler until his death in 1975.
